ESTIMATING FIELD NOTES

How to approach masonry & finishes quantities

Masonry and finish takeoffs convert net wall or floor areas into unit counts, bedding volumes, wet coat volumes and whole containers. Deductions for openings and allowances for cutting waste should remain visible in your takeoff record.

TAKEOFF CHECKLIST
  • Confirm actual coordinating and work sizes of bricks, blocks and tiles in millimetres.
  • Deduct window and door openings consistently before adding cutting and breakage wastage.
  • Distinguish geometric joint or coat volume from dry bagged mortar, render, screed or grout mass.
  • Check primer requirements, substrate porosity and number of coats for paint coverage.
