What we collect and why

Calculator inputs are processed in your browser, without an application database. Shared calculation links contain input values in their query parameters. Anyone with the link can read them, and hosting services may record request URLs. Do not put confidential information in a shared link.

If you email Kattegat Studio, your email address, message and any information you choose to include are processed so we can respond to your enquiry and maintain the service. Do not send confidential project information unless it is necessary for your request.

Hosting and service providers may process IP addresses, browser information, request URLs and security logs to deliver and protect the site. We do not install first-party analytics tools. The site uses advertising technologies as described below and two localStorage keys for your preferences.

Local storage preferences

We store your chosen currency code or symbol under buildcost.currency and your advertising consent choice under buildcost.adConsent in your browser’s localStorage. These keys contain no calculator amounts and are not transmitted by our calculator code. You can change currency in the header, update your advertising preference using the button below or in the footer, or remove both by clearing site data in your browser.

Adsterra advertising and consent

Calculator and glossary pages include ad placements served by our advertising partner, Adsterra. When advertising is active, Adsterra and its demand partners may process device identifiers, IP addresses and browsing information and may use cookies or similar technologies to deliver advertisements, limit frequency and prevent fraud.

For visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, non-essential advertising scripts are not loaded unless you grant consent via the privacy banner. You can accept or decline advertising cookies at any time without affecting access to any calculator.

Recipients, fonts and international processing

Cloudflare delivers and secures the website, our email provider handles direct correspondence, Adsterra supplies advertising on content pages (subject to consent where required), and Google Fonts supplies typography. Google Fonts requests may disclose your IP address and browser request information to Google. System fonts are used if these requests fail. See Google’s privacy policy.

Some providers may process information outside the EU/EEA and use applicable transfer safeguards. Provider terms and privacy information govern those services.

Retention

We retain email enquiries only as long as needed to respond and resolve related issues, unless a legal obligation requires longer retention. No calculator inputs are stored in an application database. Browser preferences remain on your device until changed or cleared. Hosting, email and advertising providers apply their own retention settings and policies.

Your GDPR rights

Subject to the applicable conditions, you can request access to your personal data, correction, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw consent where processing relies on it. Contact us using the details above; we may need information to verify your identity.
