ESTIMATING FIELD NOTES

How to approach concrete structures quantities

Concrete takeoffs separate net geometric volume in cubic metres from ordering allowances, bag yields and temporary formwork contact areas. Measure each structural element once so slab, beam and column intersections are never double-counted.

TAKEOFF CHECKLIST
  • Keep net geometric volume separate from wastage and pump or minimum-load allowances.
  • Verify whether formwork includes soffits, sides, end stops or opening deductions.
  • Check product bag yields in cubic metres per bag against the supplier datasheet.
  • Confirm concrete strength class and exposure designation on the structural drawings.
