ESTIMATING FIELD NOTES

How to approach timber / framing quantities

Timber framing takeoffs combine spacing-based member counts with volumetric and linear pricing. Always verify whether supplier quotations refer to nominal sawn dimensions or finished regularised sections.

TAKEOFF CHECKLIST
  • Calculate stud spacing along uninterrupted wall runs first, then add corner, junction and opening studs.
  • Use actual section dimensions in metres when calculating geometric timber volume.
  • Record head plates, sole plates, noggins and lintels as identifiable linear items.
  • Keep cutting waste and standard merchant stock lengths in mind when ordering.
