ESTIMATING FIELD NOTES

How to approach reinforcement quantities

Reinforcement estimates progress from early kilogram-per-cubic-metre budget allowances to grid bar counts and full bar bending schedules. Always distinguish nominal mass relationships from engineered lap and anchorage rules.

TAKEOFF CHECKLIST
  • Use d² ÷ 162 for quick steel mass checks in kilograms per metre from bar diameter in millimetres.
  • Count bars in each orthogonal direction separately and note whether top and bottom layers apply.
  • Treat illustrative lap multipliers as arithmetic checks only; follow engineer-approved lap schedules.
  • Add cutting waste, rolling margin, chairs and tie wire as separate procurement items.
