Foundations

Practical quantities, clear assumptions and the terms behind them.

ESTIMATING FIELD NOTES

How to approach foundations quantities

Foundation quantities depend on excavated formation levels, blinding layers and approved structural dimensions. Measure continuous strip footings, isolated pads and pile caps from the structural layout drawing before applying procurement wastage.

TAKEOFF CHECKLIST
  • Measure foundation concrete net in situ and price excavation, disposal and blinding separately.
  • Keep straight longitudinal bar lengths distinct from laps, hooks, starter bars and links.
  • Record repeated pad or pile-cap quantities alongside grid-line references for checking.
  • Confirm bearing strata, blinding thickness and cover requirements with the engineer's details.
